Hope in Despair !!

I have now finished CAT and all other competitive exams. I came close to cracking a few of these exams but missed the cut-offs of almost all of them. After having so called "failed" these exams and unable to get that most coveted seat in these highly desired Management Institutes, I was filled with despair.
In fact, I still dont know what my future holds for me. I have various plans now.Such as "trying again for these exams" or "working and then give a shot to these exams". More importantly, I don't understand why I could'nt get through these exams. I thought that I had worked hard. But when I saw others scoring much higher than me,I realised that my evaluation of my efforts was nothing but a grim illusion.
I have firm belief that every person is capable of doing everything. If 1 person in the entire world can do something, anyone else can also do it. For example, I truly believe that going on the moon is possible for every one; efforts required to be there may be differently required. A genius would take a lesser time and averagers (like me) would take a (lot) longer time. BUT, its possible. Moreover, the tougher for a person to achieve something, more enjoyable the success becomes.
Ultimately, its the effort, determination and belief is what counts. Never lose heart as thats the biggest loss.As long as there is life, there is hope.
I am trying to reach to the elusive seat of those management institutes and shall try until I get that seat. And when I get there, I shall set higher goals. But for now, that seat is my LAKSHYA ( hindi for target).

Twenty somethings

Whats common between Ali Khurshid(star photographer), Simon Pulsifer(the man who edits the wikipedia),Steve Chen and Chad Hurley(people behind youtube.com) and ME ?? ..

2 things:

1. All of us feature on Times Person Of The Year 2006 edition. Yes, you read that right. Thats because the person of the year is 'You.'. ...It includes everyone because we collectively control the info age.....Awesome!!

2. All the above mentioned are in their 20 somethings.

The latter one agonises me to a great extent. What amazed me the most was that they had achieved so much when they were all in there twenty somethings. Please, dont mistake me, I am not jealous(rather i admire their achievement whole heartedly and have unquantifiable respect for such people).

I am in my early twenties with no clue about future. I dont have a direction forget focus. I am just someone in my final yr. of grad with no great achievement till date. But, is it late enough to start ????

I got my answer in a minute. Being religious and having heard the Bhagawad Gita (of which i keep recorded cassettes) i often take it up when i am in a confused state(as i am now)..I was hearing the soothing quotes of the The Gita (as i was typing the above para) as the Swamiji read it and i heared it on my audio tape when the right thing struck me now..

To forget about the past and look into the future. It says that by our present action we have it in ourselves to change the course of our future. The Bhajan that follows the discussion suddenly instills seeds of optimism in me and i find myself more in control. I find myself with unbounded energy and can feel rays of hope emanating from the speakers of my tape.

Thank God!!....Its worked for me again.

"Strikes,lock-outs and disturbances"

The title of my blog is a quote from a history book of my cousin as I watch him prepare for his upcoming class 10 exams.I wonder the political parties, at least those of Bengal have made history repeat itself a number of embarassing times and more remarkably continues to do so.

What really makes me write this is the remarkable change that the very nature of strikes , in common parlance hartals have underwent. When in the Gandhian era, strikes were voluntary, the 21st Century strikes can boast of sites of people being beaten up who try to defy it.

With laws passed in the country to allow people to go to work in amidst a hartal, we see people being beaten up while the police looks shamelessly at the horrendous scene.

I would like to draw the attention of the readers at a particular point.West Bengal recenty experienced a yet another successful strike. What draws my attention the most was the debate whether the IT industry of Bengal should be exempted from such a strike. In my opinion, its all about sending positive signals to outsiders (read as FII's) or more blatantly making a facade so that the the image of Bengal as a state dedicated to work can be created (or saved ?)

Well, to give the devil its due and to sound more politically responsible to the ruling party of my state, I would like to mention the exemption of people taking Haj flights from such a strike. It truly is something worth applauding.

On one hand, as a student, I am mighty happy ( lets accept it) , to get a holiday but on the other and a more serious and sad note as a citizen of Kolkata, I see my "city of joy" transforming into "city of bandhs".
